Artistic rooms
Opened in May 2019, our artistic rooms are inspired by Mashiko’s forests and artistic culture.
The two rooms ASAMOYA (based on a green color scheme) and HANEZU (based on a red color scheme) seek to capture the way in which plants in Mashiko’s forests receive the gift of life from their surrounding earth, water, and air as they grow throughout the area delightfully. You can relax in the room as if you were sojourning in the woods.
Various renovations have been carried out in the year 2019 in line with Mashikokan’s goal of becoming a “homely hotel in the woods” by incorporating feedback gathered from the younger generation for these next-generation guest rooms.
As a ryokan located in Mashiko, a town known for its thriving culture and art, we have transformed these rooms into elegant, artistic guest rooms featuring bold and innovative designs.
[Green Room] ASAMOYA
This room with a green color scheme is named after wispy morning mist that is even thinner than fog.
[Red Room] HANEZU
This room with a reddish-purple color scheme is named after a color from the Nara period that was mentioned in the Manyoshu.
Exclusive rooms on the top floor that offer panoramic views of Mashiko’s satoyama
These rooms are located on the “Wind Floor” that opened in September 2012.
There are a total of 10 stylish rooms on our hotel’s top floor that offer panoramic views of Mashiko’s satoyama.
You can enjoy the fresh breeze that blows through Mashikokan in these relaxing rooms.
They are fitted with mattresses from Sealy, the top mattress brand in the U.S., to ensure that you have a good night’s sleep.

[Newly remodeled in December 2020] 23m2 Japanese-style rooms
These newly remodeled rooms reopened on December 24th (Thursday), 2020!
We have remodeled our former Japanese-style rooms to ensure that the new rooms are superior in combating the transmission of COVID-19. These rooms have been fitted with fully antibacterial wallpaper. All bidets and wash basins have also been replaced.
*The bidets have been replaced with the TOTO Pure Rest series, which possesses superior antibacterial attributes. The basin bowls feature the use of Mashiko ware and Kasama ware for a touch of local cultural flavor. We have also installed the Aeropure indoor antibacterial and deodorization system, which has been shown to be effective against COVID-19. You can now enjoy your trip with peace of mind like never before.
Relax on tatami mats and rest in a bed
This room combines a Japanese-style room with a twin-bed room. You can relax on tatami mats and move to the bed when you need a rest. The comfortable room is also equipped with a bath and a bidet.

This room is designed with a pure Japanese aesthetic style. Relax on the tatami mats and let their calming scent surround you and relieve the fatigue your body has accumulated after a day of traveling around the satoyama.
